AggieCon's Programming Manifesto:
We strive to provide exciting, diverse program choices to our members. Fun is equally distributed among all participants without discrimination against genre, class, medium, age, social status, party membership or planet of origin. Our main focus is on genre fiction (including but not limited to Science Fiction and Fantasy) and its various manifestations in literature, media, visual art, comics and games. But, much like genre fiction, we also include activities considered marginalized or esoteric (aka “nerdy”). We explore the culture of our community, related scholarly and critical fields, and the history, sciences and technology that inform, interest, and inspire us. Programming strives to present a wide range of activities and spectrum of ideas. Our goal for AggieCon is a varied programming schedule showcasing diverse viewpoints; one that is interesting, educational, but most importantly fun for all.
The programming model used by AggieCon likes to keep things exciting. We cross over genres and mediums in discussion topics. We offer demos, lectures, workshops, panel discussions, games, and media showings. We bring together many different kinds of people on panels to provide a more diverse and unique experience for all.
What this means in practical terms is that some items are tightly focused with a single presenter or a homogeneous panel, while others examine ideas in a variety of contexts with a panel representing diverse interests, perspectives, and opinions. The underlying philosophy is that diversity strengthens community and increases interest. We provide a place for fans of all different levels, experiences and interests to come together for a fun weekend they will never forget.
Just as A&M values diversity and tradition, AggieCon being the largest and longest-running student convention strives to provide a unique experience for all. Regulars to local conventions can learn more the university and about our parent organization, Cepheid Variable. Meanwhile our fellow students can expand their horizons and let their inner geek run free. There will be something for everyone at all times.
