Cosplay Competition
If you’ve been to a convention and have seen your favorite characters walking around then you’ve been exposed to cosplay! Cosplay contests are also known as costume contest or masquerade.
We welcome and encourage all guests to cosplay during the convention. Cosplay is not limited to anime. Feel free to come as your favorite Video Game or Television character, Superhero, Wood Elf, or Zombie! ALL cosplayers (entering the contest or not) are subject to a few rules:
Official weapon’s policy:
- Due to university regulation NO GUNS, real or fake, are allowed. No exceptions.
- Also, no real blades or swords, not even peacetied. If your character has to have one, please construct a prop one out of safe materials.
Please keep in mind that many of our convention events are held in our Memorial Student Center (MSC). It is considered respectful to remove your hats while inside the Center. While other convention goers may understand that your hat is an integral part of your costume, be aware that while you are in other areas of the MSC university students may ask you to remove your hats. If asked, please do so until you are back in a convention area.
Cosplay Contest
If you want to show off your costume in front of an audience and our panel of judges for a chance to win fabulous prizes, sign up for our Cosplay Contest!
- Registration is free and forms will be available at the convention registration booth.
- Remember, cosplay is an all ages event, and contestants are expected to behave accordingly. Deviation from this rule will lead to disqualification and immediate removal.
- You may enter in one of two categories: Walk on or Group.
-
- The walk on category is for those individuals who do not have a skit prepared but still wish to show off their costumes. Contestants are encouraged to pose and give the audience and judges a good view of their costumes. Walk on contestants have one minute.
-
- Those with prepared skits have 5 minutes to perform and exit the stage. No exceptions. Skits may be done by individuals or groups and should be rehearsed prior to the contest. For large skits, no more than six people may be on stage at any one time. If your group has more than that, other must wait in the wings until those onstage exit.
- Please keep any martial arts to 1/4th speed. Also, at least one foot must remain on the ground at all times. Please no jumps (including jumping onto or off of the stage), flips, or falls (unless done in slow motion).
- Don’t take anything onstage that is not going to leave with you. No confetti, silly string, flower petals, paper bits, or water that might be hazardous to later contestants.
- All contestants who wish to participate in the costume contest must attend the rehearsal prior to the actual contest. This will just be a general run through to make sure everyone is comfortable with the stage and everyone knows the rules. Times TBA.
Keep in mind that crazy things happen at conventions; consider bringing an emergency kit for any costume crisis.
